Other than just discovering our musical talents, I guess we found some composing genes!

JinRong told me that she and Clara composed one song each and Ben Lam one. Which means we have 3 new songs to arrange and play. Can't wait!

Future practices:

What do u guys think of future practices?

A few alternatives:
1. Have it on friday nights, so it becomes like a musicians CG thing.

Plus points are:
i) that ur parents will be probably off to their own CG knowing that u are also going for "CG" in a way.

ii) And I guess parents can be a bit more relak on friday nights with the late-homecoming right?

iii) And also we can play for Prayer and Praise: for actual experience playing, join prayer and praise and also up our visibility in the church.

2. Continue on Thursday nights

3. Sectionals (i.e. vocalists go to vocal trainers for training, like tutors like Sam and Yvonne, drummers to me etc) on one week, the following week combine prac.

- This is especially for the people who might be more behind than the others in terms of music foundation.

Minus points:
1. I will have to miss my CG (and I will miss them.. *sob*)

2. All these subject to approval from the youth leaders, pastor, and ur parents, CG head etc

- Was thinking of having one, like a post-PTL sharing session. To let them understand what are doing during practice and the direction we are heading toward.

- And u do understand that everything becomes easier when there is constant communication!

I agree with Justin! Great job man.

I am really proud of u all . Speaking on behalf of Gaylin and James, I'm sure they are proud too!

I had a wonderful time at Calvary. (sounds a bit wrong. Like sadistic to see Jesus die..) All the other churches were really creative! I liked especially the mime. I was fighting to hold back my tears.

Thank all the church supporters (especially your parents! give them a hug man) for coming down to be our "fans". I think we have the loudest cheers when we were up on stage.

Thanks:

i) for the many fun and loving friendships (this is only the start!),

ii) to Samuel for his waxing services to "spike up" our hair,

iii) to all the hard work put in practising, inviting friends (although none of them came. But I am encouraged by simply the effort to invite), praying

iv) for all the late nights

v) for the fund-raising and push for new instruments (they wouldn't have been possible w/o u all!)

NDP Break: Pray and Prac

Hi all!

Thanks for the practice. I felt really edified by all of u.

1a). Ben Lam's short worship (not the no of songs, but the QUALITY - how much Holy Spirit) was really edifying cos it reminded me how we should just be still and worship God for who He is, with all our hearts, no need for jumping, raised hands etc. (but still if we want to, we should! That'd be giving Him pleasure!)

The 1st song (I will lift my eyes to you) had really meaningful and poetic lyrics that touched me too:

"I will lift my eyes to the Maker
Of the mountains I can’t climb

I will lift my eyes to the Calmer
Of the oceans raging wild

I will lift my eyes to the Healer
Of the hurt I hold inside

I will lift my eyes, lift my eyes to You"

The 1st line spoke to me because I felt so inadequate w/o James' help for "Fall to you", so it is comforting to know that THE MAN, God is in charge.

The 2nd line was good cos I was feeling stressed about the coming PTL and the no of practices we are left w but still we are always in good hands - Jesus'!

(Wonder if anybody has a mp3 of the song?)

1b) I felt very ministered to the QT (quiet time) sharings from Jinrong, Clara, and Ben Lam. They really remind us to be conscious of our walk with God. To be conscious of God's promises, to be conscious ourselves that we do not bring glory to ourselves with our music but point ppl to Jesus.

Let's encourage Samuel to do his QT and each other (esp Timothy) to do more!

2. Congratulations to Ben Lam again for stepping out in faith to proclaim Jesus' love for Him via Baptism!

2) Reflection

Do reflect on Pastor Ayan's message. We'll share more on thurs but a few pts off my head:

- Unity through forbearance – music to unite, not divide

- Practice! (“know what you are playing”)

- True meaning of worship – daily!

- Music as a service – bringing pleasure to God

3) Practise!

Please prac ALL 3 songs. James is helping us think of a rock arrangement for your song so behold...

i) do up a study schedule and plan to study what topics daily. - be realistic.

iv) Daily revision/ practice of work.

Money

1) Disappointment

I am shocked and disappointed when I learnt about the money incident on Friday. Hope you guys won't take it lightly. We are already doing so much wrong in the fund-raising without informing the Council. Worse now that we take the money collected lightly.

Hope all of you helped clean the dishes etc on Sunday as a punishment.

2) Discussion on Thursday

However I must commend all of you for your willing hearts in fund-raising for the church with such joy and energy. We need to discuss our priorities of things to buy this thursday. We won't want to use the hard-earned money anyhow.

Prac 8

Everybody please be there. Practice resumes per normal.

I want to thank Chee Wee, Justin and Gabriel for their precious time in coming for practice and playing for my 1st ever worship leading with the adults. We greatly missed Gabriel's bass parts during PnP. Nevertheless, I still feel we brought about change!

Teaching the adults to stepout of their comfort zones/ human traditions into biblical worship with clapping and the raising of hands was certainly a wonderful experience.

Ben Lam please try to involve ALL the ITU namely, Yaofeng, Ian, En Nien and Alan etc. Invite them to come for prac with us.

Please practice Gaylin's song. We'll work on it a bit this thurs. Rem the 3 scripture verses that u have to memorize!

Gabriel remember your music presentation.

All: remember to do your daily quiet time and be prepared to share.

Continue to invite all your friends to church and never stop evangelizing!

Fund-raising

Great job too in helping with the cooking, serving and advertising. We have raised a good sum of money. But the bad news is that the person selling the pedal for $180 has already sold his pedal. Gabriel found another same model (also 2^nd hand) selling for $225.

But here’s good news: A member of the church who preferred to be anonymous has agreed to help us out with the shortfall. Praise Jesus!

I am disappointed with the insensitiveness of most of you during the stayover. The guys disturbing the girls ( + other guys, Gaylin and me) during sleeping time, the loud blasting of music thru ur HPs, and the non-participation in the cooking and cleaning.

If we have no discipline, we might as well stop coming together cos ppl may just not want to come for practices simply becos they dun feel like it or have other fun activities in store.

Commitment = discipline and a mature consideration for others. Some of may not have needed the sleep but some do.

Practice 4 (post-Church retreat, pre-Youth Camp)

Hi all!

Hope u guys had a refreshing time at the retreat. TeachTimi on the things we've learnt k? Like how to share the Gospel with John 3:16, How to grow deep with Jesus and how all of us should be convicted that all our friends and family need Jesus. Rem to ask Jesus to open our spiritual eyes, and to give us a new vision and passion for Him.

Good job on the blog. Getting Gaylin's pic, setting up the links, white background etc. Is there a wallpaper we can use that has a cross on it or say "Jesus"?

I love CheeWee's post. Let's all shine for Jesus especially with our youthful energy. Tell Jesus to all your friends, be on fire for Him!

Practice 4

I should be late cos of teaching. Have to squeeze all my students cos of our Youth Camp. Yvonne and Sam would be there to open Church. Msg Yvonne if u all wanna go practice early k?

Itinerary:

1) Worship/ Sharing (Samuel pls come up with the schedule) - prac!

3) Music Theory lesson

3a) Music appreciation (if have time)

Hey!

I am sure you all had fun in the church retreat.
Hope that the sermons and the workshop taught all of you something.
Do use it to apply in your life and apply it through music!

We had great times, having fun in the pool
having fun playing "Who's the Boss"
having fun playing "Tai Di"
having fun playing "Taboo"
and other sort of games.

as for those who didnt go for this retreat.

Practice 3 Debrief

1st of all Happy Birthday to our in house Keyboardist Clara!

A few things to recap:

1) Responsibilties:

i) Overall IC: Ben Lam - oversee everything

ii) 2IC (secretary): Timothy - take down minutes and upload to blog (like what I am doing now)

iii) Librarian: Chee Wee - Make sure u have a copy of each person's scores, and also the weekly handouts

iv) Timekeeper: Jin Rong

v) Blog ICs: Justin and Clara - Decorate the blogs and advertise for the event. So that ur frens can get more info and makes your inviting more successful and easier

vi) Treasurer: Charis - We'll start pooling together money to buy the guitar pedal for church.

vii) Worship Scehdule: Samuel - Make sure have substitutes in case the scheduled person can't make it on last minute. Remind them to pray and rehearse beforehand.

viii) Logistics: Gabriel - Make sure we have all the things ready for the event. Tidy up church after prac etc.

2) Next Prac:

I know we settled on June 12 but James can't make it on Tuesdays. Thinking of postponing it but realized 13-15th June is the Youth camp. And June 11 I can't make it. So still set at June 12.

Do u all want to prac at night or prefer morning/afternoon?

Ben Lam can u consolidate and then tell me?

3) Things to do:

i) Daily Quiet time - remember we'll have weekly tests!

ii) Buy your Black files and Music Exercise books. Music theory lessons will start next prac.

iii) Memorize bible verse 1 Cor 10:13

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, God will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it" (NIV)

Those who can't write the verse from memory WILL NOT play music in the next practice.

Ben Lam asked why the verse. The reason: It is linked to our bible study on the temple tax story. That we are often tempted to exercise our own rights instead of focusing on our ministry on Earth - Evangelism.

Choose to spend your endless energy for Jesus and love for others rather than in our selfish activities. Escape from temptation!

Start praying and ask God whose lives is He working in and ask Him to teach you on how to minister to the friend or relative.

iv) Get your Prayer warriors. Ask them to sign on any paper. To be done by next practice.

Refer to the latest handout for your daily prayer items.

Disappointment

i) I am disappointed because I come to learn that you people don't appreciate our efforts. Seems like almost none of you took the handouts home.

e.g. Chee Wee did you photocopy the scores?

ii) The worship led by Ben Lam was horrible. I do not know about you guys but I myself was not edified in the least. Last minute preparations is not the way to go. We need to pray about how God wants to speak to the congregation through us and choose the songs as He leads.

The worship was dull and without energy. That is not the way to worship Jesus!

for e.g. The guitar strumming was almost the same for all 3 songs. There was no opening prayer nor closing prayer. I felt like we were just singing songs. There was no message. Ben's message was unclear and not confident.

The point: Pray and Practice with your musicians beforehand. If not, we might as well not have worship and sing pop songs.

Remember our 3 disciplines?

1) Spiritual
2) Musical
3) Academic

Put your priorities right. Plan your time. Let's be good testimonies for each other to our parents and to the church. Show them that we can play good music but not at the expense of our grades. Then we'll get support from them.

4) Sharing

Matthew 17: 24-27 The Temple Tax

- Jesus chose Youths for his ministry on Earth!

- Jesus would choose our most confident area to test us.

- Jesus avoided unnecessary trouble. He gave up his right to focus on His ministry.

Lift up your hands!

- The bible (esp Psalms) is full of scenes of people worshipping God with their hands held high.

- Don't be shy in worshipping God! Worship is between you and God alone.

Rock gig debrief

Hope u guys enjoyed yourselves at the concert! I certainly enjoyed my time out w u all!

A few things that James mentioned we can learn from the gig are:

1) tune b4 going up
2) look at each other for band communication
3) prac! So that can get into the "music mood" and not "fear play wrong note mood"

Certainly can't forget the crappy but funny MC.

Pls continuing praying for July 1st Youth Day worship for God to use us mightily to change lives and to minister to the people. Pray for a worshipful heart, great fellowship btw us (and the youths not participating) and musical coherence.

We're leading both english and cantonese services.

Well its another new day and another day closer to PTL. Pretty stressful huh? Well anyway thanks to justin we have a new blogskin. Hope you guys go thank him. Pretty nice blog. Hope you guys have been reading the announcements and stuffs. From now on our band is called FREEFALL. Quite a cool name huh?

ITU, there will be an outing next week for pirates of the... (don't know how to spell) but you know yeah? Wonder if Ben Lim and gang is in? So save your money! Movie's these day very expensive. It will be a good opportunity to bond together for PTL and the future.

So how has inviting your friend been? Or have you not? Its still 'quite' early? 3 months plus is not really alot of time! Go book them in advance. In this way you can be now more motivated in our music and do the best to bring your friend to know God through the songs. So keep praying and trying!

Another thing is utilise the blog well. Make a blog of your own. Link it to this blog. So we can read about your day in school and wadeva? It can be like a sharing and opportunity to know each other more. Justin has a blog. I just realise that. Gonna read it soon. Hello people! It is always so exciting to post, but more exciting that the tagboard is up and going. Now you can just post a short note of maybe a verse that you wish to share about to encourage each other as a team! How exciting is that! We can also post our prayer request there so that everyone can pray for you! Feel the power of God!

Continue to pray for each other. The examination results are out yeah? So hopefully you did well! If not, its time to pull up your socks! Prioritize your time. With good time plan you can make time for PTL practice and yet recieving A s in school. I am guilty of bad time plan too so lets not stop encouraging each other to study smart!

Also the school term is closing so thats good news, kind of at least! So that means more time? YEAH MAN! So take time to practice your instruments! Remember hor!

Okay people. Although the title may be a little copied from heroes but who cares. Its indeed a new beginning of our adventure together as a TEAM! The blog is up... all thanks to... ahem... me. But anyway, this blog is meant to be for everyone. For you to post your feelings and everything. Of course related ones la. Its a place where we can share our thoughts and our experiences with God, encouraging one another and sharing each others burden. I know that it is always much easier to share online. Saves the expression. Also share music pointers with each other. Spot each other's mistake and improve on it as a TEAM! Motivate each other to play ONLY THE BEST music to GOD!

Therefore i will offer to everyone the password if you wish to post their encouragement and whatever. But if you wanna keep things short. you can always post a comment or type in the UPCOMING text box. Wait a little while more while i things really up and going. I am not really good with such IT stuffs.
